About This Work

Stephen Foster, known as the "Father of American Music" was the pre-eminent songwriter in the United States during the 19th century. His music became a legend in his lifetime and despite him earning virtually nothing from royalties, remain popular over 150 years after their composition

In this, the first selection of Foster songs, Roger Cawkwell has arranged two of his most popular melodies - 'Old Folks at Home' (Often mistakenly named after its first line 'Way Down Upon the Swanee River' - incidentally Foster contemplated using the name Yazoo River instead of Swanee - followed by a rousing setting of 'Camptown Races'.
