Mors et Vita’ – Death and Life - Gounod

Thursday, 30 June 2022

‘Mores et Vita'. The oratorio ‘Mors et Vita' - ‘Death and Life' - is the continuation of ‘The Redemption' and was the second of a proposed trilogy of oratorios written by Charles Gounod for the Birmingham Festival in 1885. Better known as ‘Judex' it is an instrumental work in the second part and became one of the most effective pieces of orchestration in the oratorio.

Arranged for Concert Band by Geoff Kingston the lovely work is ideal for the concert platform or solemn occasions. I have dedicated this score to my good friend Derrick Whiting. The first time I heard this was at his funeral.
