About This Work

"Lady Cassiles Lilt" is an old ballad about a Lady who elopes with a Gipsy. The ballad begins: 'A wee bird cam to our ha' door,’ A note under the original title states that the lyrics should be sung to the famous air, 'Bonny House o' Airley', also known as "Lady Cassiles Lilt’, a traditional Jacobite song. William GLEN (1789 - 1826), a Scottish poet, born in Glasgow, was for some years in the West Indies. He died in poverty. He wrote several poems, but the only one which has survived is this Jacobite ballad, Michael Walters' effective arrangement for Concert Band and Bagpipes of this haunting melody is ideal for the concert platform or outdoor performance and is a significant addition to the repertoire. A must for bands looking for something different!
