About This Work

"Hooning Horns", composed for Brass Quintet by Jeffrey Thorpe, refers to a term used in Australia and New Zealand to describe cars or boats being driven in an anti-social manner i.e. street racing. Anyone who participates in such activity is known colloquially as a ‘Hoon'. The frenetic nature of the quintet describes in music the fast, noisy nature of Hooning. A great party piece with the tempo marked as "non-negotiable".
