About This Work

“Nursery Corner” is a collection of much loved Nursery Rhymes especially arranged by Roger Tomlinson. As “A Young Person’s Guide to the Concert Band”, it is ideal for schools concerts although its nostalgic melodies will be very popular with audiences of all ages.

The opening section features “Oranges and Lemons”, during which the full Band, and then the Brass and Woodwind Sections are introduced. Simple melodies then feature each solo instrument or group of instruments in turn, beginning with the Piccolo. The accompaniment to each tune is lightly scored, so that featured instruments can be heard to their best advantage. Cuts can be made for unavailable instruments.

The finale is a rollicking fugue on “Boys and Girls come out to Play”, starting again with the Piccolo, and descending through the band. The climax is a reprise of “Oranges and Lemons” in the Brass, with the Woodwind busily continuing with the “Boys and Girls” theme.
