About This Work
‘Dark Eyes' is a very old but still widely known Russian Gypsy folk song that has been performed and recorded in countless arrangements; some vocal, a few strictly instrumental. Here it has been arranged by Geoff Kingston as a Trumpet Trio.
The melody to Dark Eyes is exotic, its opening phrases rising higher and higher, its rhythmic character boiling with the song's sense of passion. Yet there is a forlorn character to the music, too, a strong feeling of regret. This arrangement encompasses the original nature of the song and presents it also as a steady swing. A great Trumpet feature and one that is ideal for bands of all grades. Can be performed as a Trumpet duet - additional parts provided. Ideal as an encore.
