Prelude and Les Chasseresse (The Huntresses)

Sunday, 20 August 2017

‘Prelude and Les Chasseresse (The Huntresses)' from Delibes ballet ‘Sylvia' has been freely arranged for Concert Band by Geoff Kingston. The opening majestic march is quickly followed by ‘Les Chasseresse', with its volatile and vigorous horn calls and throbbing figures in the woodwinds. A second section offers a skipping little tune, with short brass phrases, answered by the woodwinds. The following, more vigorous passage, brings back the fanfare material closing with fanfares from the French Horns. This shortened, spirited, arrangement makes it immediately appealing and is an ideal finale or semi-finale.
