John O'Dreams - Symphony Pathetique

Sunday, 22 March 2015

"John O'Dreams" is a traditional Irish song based upon the main theme from the first movement of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.6 - the Pathetique. The song portrays all people as being equal in sleep with the central character being equivalent to the ‘Sandman', a mythical character who is said to sprinkle sand or dust into the eyes of children at night to bring on dreams and sleep.

Arranged for Concert Band by Geoff Kingston this beautiful song is slightly slower in tempo than the original song and given the ‘easy-listening' treatment with lush scoring and harmonies. An enchanting setting that will ideal for band of all grades.
