"Haydn Divertimento in F" is based on one of a series of pieces Josef Haydn wrote as background entertainments and may well have been played in public parks and gardens – the equivalent of our bandstand concerts nowadays. The original scoring was for one of the standard instrumental groupings of the day, two oboes, two horns and two bassoons but the frequent doublings in the score makes it very easily fit the five-part Sax instrumentation.
Imaginatively scored in five movements by Roger Cawkwell, this is an ideal work for recitals, incidental music or to perform just for pleasure.
