“Concert Prelude” is based on the medieval chant ‘Gaudete’, a sacred Christmas carol composed sometime in the 16th century. Arranged for Concert Band by John Holland this lively opener twists through the band introducing the various groups of instruments, slipping in and out of ancient and modern harmonies to create an unusual but rousing start to any concert. The tune is, of course, associated with Christmas, but could be potentially used at any time of the year.
