About This Work

“The Big Dipper”, composed and arranged for Xylophone and Wind Band by Ian Macpherson is traditional in concept, emulating solos by Kenneth Alford and Jack Lemon. Full of the fun of the fair it depicts the thrill of a white-knuckle ride on Blackpool’s’ famous ‘Big Dipper’, visited by Ian as a child and the inspiration for the work. This whirlwind spree will enthral your audiences with its musical pyrotechnics and great sense of fun. A great Concert or Bandstand feature and an opportunity for your percussionist to display his wares.
