| ABOUT THIS WORK | Arthur Sullivan composed The Lost Chord in January 1877 whilst watching at his brother Fred's bedside during his last illness. The success of the song was stupendous and became particularly associated with Mrs. Ronalds who often sang it at society functions. The Prince of Wales was said to have remarked that he would travel the length of his future kingdom to hear her sing it. Sullivan later commented: "I have composed much music since then, but have never written a second Lost Chord. Arranged for Solo Bb Cornet and Concert Band by Geoff Kingston this is an ideal showcase for the young performer and a guaranteed audience pleaser. This arrangement is also available as a Euphonium Solo and Vocal accompaniment. |
