| ABOUT THIS WORK |
Michael Korb & Ulrich Roever’s Highland Cathedral is possibly one the most popular melodies performed by concert bands and pipes. Geoff Kingston, in this new setting, combines traditional and more contemporary styles to give a rousing and uplifting rendition of this much-loved melody. Suited for indoor and outdoor performance this is a new and exciting diversion from the traditional setting. MICHAEL KORB Michael Korb has always had a special liking for bagpipe music. When he finished school in 1975 he went to Berlin, and immediately took lessons with the ‘Pipe Major’ of the Scottish battalion, who taught him to play this unusual instrument. When the Scots left Berlin, Michael Korb went to Edinburgh, where he took daily lessons with the 80 year-old Paddy Atkinson. During the day, he practised in Paddy’s garden arbour; at night (becouae of the neighbours), he practised in the woods. For several years, he kept coming back to Edinburgh, until he had an adequate command of the instrument. |
