‘The Ash Grove’ (Llwyn On) is a beautiful Welsh melody first published in 1802. This traditional tune is internationally known, being sung in various settings and at rugby matches, where the lyrics can at times be called questionable. In this short pastiche for Concert Band Robert Cowan has followed this tradition, presenting this popular tune in various styles from its more traditional setting through ‘Swing’ and ‘Alla Marcia’ – all ending in with a bright flourish.
