About This Work: ‘Sarabande’ is the forth movement of George Frederic Handel’s Keyboard Suite in D minor for solo Harpsichord, the theme of which is a variation of ‘La Folia’, one of the oldest remembered European musical themes on record.

It achieved modern popularity when an orchestrated version was used by Stanley Kubrick for his 1975 film ‘Barry Linden. Arranged for Brass Quintet by Geoff Kingston, with two versions of the first variation, this well known work is ideal as a wedding processional, incidental music or recitals.

A Sarabande is a slow dance in triple meter with the distinctive feature that the second and third beats of the measure are often tied, giving a distinctive rhythm of quarter and half notes in alternation. Sarabande was a common movement during the baroque period.
