“Hora Staccato”, composed by Grigoras Dinici achieved instant success as a virtuoso showpiece in its original form for Violin and Piano. Written for his graduation in 1906 from the Bucharest Conservatory, and performed at the ceremony, the work became an instant success and a favorite encore with violinists, especially in the 1932 arrangement by Jascha Heifetz. In this arrangement for Concert Band, Geoff Kingston has retained all the vibrancy and character of the original work with opportunities to feature soloists and instrumental sections. The character of the piece also demands that notes be articulated in a crisp and clear manner so that the vibrancy of music comes out. A great band encore and certainly one to keep in the ‘extras’ bag! | |
