‘The Manikins of War’, composed for Concert Band by Ian Macpherson, is the third in his trilogy depicting mythological episodes. Other related works are ‘‘Labyrinth’ and ‘Descent into the Maelstrom’. ‘The Manikins of War’ depicts an epic battle between good and evil with mythological creatures gathering for the war to end all wars. Full of energy this beautifully crafted work is eminently playable and will enthral your audience with its ever shifting moods, unexpected twists and rich scoring; so much a feature of Ian’s compositions and arrangements. This, with the other related works, is an important addition to repertoire and highly recommended to bands who wish to programme music that is challenging yet audience friendly.
