About This Work
‘‘The Gathering', composed and arranged for Concert Band and Bagpipes by Ian Macpherson, is a new composition inspired by his own ancestral connection, which was an important part of Scotland's Clan system.
The Scottish Clans gave a sense of identity to the people of Scotland and to their relations throughout the world and formed a major role in forging the path of Scottish History. Clans are generally identified by geographical areas which were originally controlled by the Chiefs. Clan gatherings form a regular and important part of the social scene. "The Gathering" with its haunting melody is full of atmosphere, energy and emotion.
