About This Work
"The Dream Catcher", is a new work composed and arranged for Concert Band by Ian Macpherson. Following a distinctive fanfare the work unfolds in three clearly defined movements; with interplay between the opening motif and a broad dreamlike melody. Full of surprising twists and turns this high impact, and very playable work, makes an ideal concert opener or overture. Another great composition by Ian and a positive contribution to the Concert Band repertoire. A real tour de force which will thrill your band and audience.
Dream catchers are one of the most fascinating traditions of Native Americans. The traditional dream catcher was intended to protect the sleeping individual from negative dreams, while letting positive dreams through. The positive dreams would slip through the hole in the centre of the dream catcher, and glide down the feathers to the sleeping person below. The negative dreams would get caught up in the web, and expire when the first rays of the sun struck them.
