For many years Victor Ewald’s four Brass Quintets were considered to be the first original pieces composed specifically for today’s recognisable ensemble. This series of quintets have become a staple of the repertoire and which represent almost the only, and certainly the most extended examples of original literature in the Romantic style.
Transcribed and edited by Geoff Kingston the ‘Allegro’, from Brass Quintet No.1, Op 5 is now available.
The two preceding movements, ‘Allegro Moderato’ and ‘Adagio - Allegro – Adagio’, will be published soon.
Victor Ewald (1860 - 1935), was a Russian composer of music, mainly for conical brass instruments.
