The title, "Ombra Mai Fù" which translates from the Italian as ‘Never has there been a shade’, is the first aria of the opera Serse (Xerxes) by George Frideric Handel, and is sung by the main character, "Xerxes", in praise of a tree's shade as he sits underneath it. It is commonly known as Handel's "Largo", although the original tempo was larghetto.
Dramatically arranged for Concert Band in the original key of F Major by Geoff Kingston, this much loved melody is tailored for the concert platform. Valuable also as incidental music for weddings, church services or more solemn occasions.
