Ian Mitchell originally composed “Fortes Fortuna Adiuvat” (Fortune Favours the Brave) for the Household Division production Viva Music III, held at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in February 2008. This event was the third of its type, and Ian had the privilege of composing the opening fanfares for all three events.
Having undergone nominal re-orchestration and structural surgery since Viva Musica III, “Fortes Fortuna Adiuvat” is now presented in a format suitable for full symphonic wind band and is a strong concert opener, challenging all sections of the band.
“Fortes Fortuna Adiuvat” is a phrase that is credited to Alexander the Great. describing his use of his infantry and cavalry.
