Dag Wiren, a Swedish composer, studied at the Stockholm conservatory from 1926-1931. Although he composed numerous orchestral pieces and five symphonies, his most famous work is his Serenade for Strings. Although the title and composer may not be immediately recognisable, the work on first hearing certainly is. Arranged for concert band by George Pollen this is a delightful addition to the concert band repertoire.
