‘The Easter Hymn’, from opera Cavalleria Rusticana, is one of Pietro Mascagni’s most beautiful melodies and often performed on the concert platform. Originally orchestrated for Orchestra, Soprano and Chorus this has been arranged for concert band by Geoff Kingston. Always an audience pleaser this ideal as a semi-finale or sacred concerts. Although scored a tone lower that the original this is available, on request, for Band, Soprano and S.A.T.B. in the original key - G Major.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF THE OPERA
It is Easter morning in Sicily; Turiddu still carries a torch for his former lover sweetheart, Lola, who married Alfio when Turiddu was in military service. Now Lola is flirting again and Turiddu is quick to drop Santuzza, whom he courted on the rebound. Rejected and jealous, Santuzza tells Alfio of Lola's faithlessness. When Turiddu returns from Mass Alfio challenges him to a duel. As the mother and remorseful sweetheart await the outcome, word comes that Turiddu has been killed
